An update on the 2026 TenpinSA State Championships

Dear Members,

I wanted to share an important update regarding the 2026 TenpinSA State Championships.

After extensive discussion, planning, and venue investigations, we’ve made the difficult decision that TenpinSA will not be in a position to run a State Championship event in 2026.

I understand this will be disappointing news for many, and I want to acknowledge that upfront. State Championships are a cornerstone for our bowlers, officials, and volunteers, and this decision was not taken lightly.

The reality is that, for 2026, we do not have access to a venue that meets our required dates and event needs. Despite exploring all available options, we were unable to secure a suitable venue to deliver a State Championships event to the standard our members expect and deserve.

What’s important to note is that this is not a step back, nor does it reflect any reduction in our commitment to the sport in South Australia.

Throughout 2026, TenpinSA will actively work with venues to build capacity and explore solutions, with the clear goal of returning to a full State Championships program in 2027. This includes ongoing discussions around lane availability, event scheduling, and long-term planning.

In the meantime, the Tournament Committee and Board will regroup in January to rework the 2026 calendar. Our focus will be on creating opportunities for a range of events across different groups and divisions, and ensuring pathways remain to recognise Masters winners across all categories.

We’re confident that 2026 can still be a strong year for local events, competition, and community growth, and we’re committed to ensuring bowlers continue to have meaningful opportunities to compete.

I appreciate that not everyone will agree with this decision, and that’s completely understandable. Please know it comes from a place of honesty, realism, and a genuine desire to prioritise the long-term health of the sport.
